The expansion and renovation of the Sterile Processing Department included upgrading and reconfiguring the department's operational space layout, replacement of decontamination and sterilization equipment, incorporating new material management storage systems and relocating staff locker, change rooms, washrooms and offices.
The challenge in this project was to maintain department operations 24hours a day, 7 days a week during the entire construction period with minimal disruption. To address this, the construction was phased in 14 stages of work spanning two years. The construction involved the highest level of preventive measures of infection control. The design utilized a palette of soft, natural paint and material colours and various resilient materials to improve the spatial quality of the department which is located in the basement level.
